Lyrics

What started off as Heaven
Descended into Hell
History, forever changed
Paths we've known so well
The beauty and the wonder
More fragile than it seems
Ending up as nightmares
What started out as dreams

Seen for miles and miles
Dreams gone up in smoke
Things we took for granted
Passions now awoke
Lives were changed from that day on, never more the same
We forever bear the scars of the Burning Canyon

In the shadow of the mountain
The winds of fate did change
They brought death and destruction
Racing down the range
The path of burning fury
Straight from Satan's den
We hold out hope that what once flew
Will one day fly again

Seen for miles and miles
Dreams gone up in smoke
Things we took for granted
Passions now awoke
Lives were changed from that day on, never more the same
We forever bear the scars of the Burning Canyon

Witnessed from safe distance
It seemed all too surreal
The agony of waiting
'til wounds begin to heal
There but for the grace of God
Go unto my fate
Marvel at destruction
And the power to create

Seen for miles and miles
Dreams gone up in smoke
Things we took for granted
Passions now awoke
Lives were changed from that day on, never more the same
We forever bear the scars of the Burning Canyon

The Waldo Canyon Fire started on June 23, three miles west of Colorado Springs, eventually forcing the evacuation of over 32,000 people from homes and businesses. Three days later, on June 26, it exploded eastward toward the city, engulfing several neighborhoods, destroying 346 homes, as well as the popular Flying W Ranch, and claimed the lives of 74-year-old William Everett and his wife, Barbara, 73. Eventually the fire burned more than 18,000 acres.

As of September 12, 2012 it was determined to be human caused but investigators don't know if it was intentional or accidental.
