Lyrics

Mountains rise before me
The prairies stretch behind
Visions of ancient glory
Play out in my mind
The eagle soaring all alone
Never wondering why
The rivers flowing freely
As red rocks reach the sky
I've seen this place a thousand times before
As simple as just stepping out my door
The scenes that play out right before my eyes
Enlightened by a glorious sunrise

And I try to understand
To understand
But the mysteries and meaning do confound
And understanding proves to be an elusive thing
But the truth still holds
That every day we Walk On Ancient Ground

Millennia mean nothing
To countless eons past
Ancient races, come and gone
While the world has held steadfast
The mountains do bear witness to
Histories lost pages
Yet even they are infants
To the passing of lost ages
Legends told, long lost ancient lore
Reshaping of the mountains, seas and shore
Eras pass as nothing, time goes on
As surely as the dusk before the dawn

And I try to understand
To understand
But the mysteries and meaning do confound
And understanding proves to be an elusive thing
But the truth still holds
That every day we Walk On Ancient Ground

Legends of ancient people
Recurring throughout time
Long lost civilizations
Ended in their prime
Repeatedly we've heard the tale
Of descending from the sky
Created by those from above
We struggle to wonder why
Throughout the world are countless cryptic clues
Perverted by the meanings we infuse
Sometimes printed on the very land
Messages we strive to understand

And I try to understand
To understand
But the mysteries and meaning do confound
And understanding proves to be an elusive thing
But the truth still holds
That every day we Walk On Ancient Ground
